A 'Mad Max'-style attack vehicle is to be used by the Army to tackle the Taliban in Afghanistan.
The new 4x4 vehicles, described by one serving officer as 'like a Land Rover on steroids' with a gun platform bristling with weapons.
It will be also be fast for a four tonne vehicle, with a potential top speed of 80mph.
The new machines are technically known as MWMIKs (Mobility Weapon Mounted Installation Kit) but are known as Wimiks by the troops who use them.

Like the fearsome modified vehicles in the dystopian sci-fi blockbuster starring Mel Gibson, the new MWMIK comes bristling with an array of sophiticated and powerful weapons.
It has a range of firepower, including a .50 calibre machine gun or an automatic grenade launcher and a general purpose machine gun.
It carries up to three soldiers with their individual weapons, and can operate on a variety of terrains, including off road.
The first of 130 of the British built and designed weapons has just started production in Plymouth and will be delivered early next year.

The Ministry of Defence has signed a £30 million contract for the trucks to be built at Devonport Dockyard by its owners DML.
The weapon has been specifically designed for use in Afghanistan and has much higher spec than the Land Rovers it is succeeding.
It can cross rough retain at high speeds but can only reach its top speed of 80 mph on normal roads.

The Ministry of Defence hope it will help the army fight a more mobile war against the Taliban, going in hard and quickly against their mountain strongholds.
The MWMIK has been designed by the British firm Supacat and will be built at Devonport using mainly British parts.
The vehicle could enjoy a profitable export market around the world if it proves itself on the battlefields of Helmond Province.

Lord Drayson, Minister of State for Defence Equipment and Support, said: "These vehicles are well armed, swift, and agile. They will boost our capability with some serious firepower.
"The MoD and the Treasury have worked hard to get these powerful vehicles to our troops in quick time, and they will start going out to theatre early next year."
