Mahindra Axe is a little hummer for the Army

July 13, 2007

The Indian Army is all set to get its on desi Humvee! To be called the Mahindra Axe, the indigenous vehicle from Mahindra & Mahindra, has undergone the necessary tests recently.

Okay, calling the AXE a Hummer might be too much of a stretch - but it is a potent weapon for the army nevertheless.

The Mahindra Axe is being built as per Indian Army specifications. The vehicle is an IPR of the Mahindras and even the engine ...

This weapon injects a frozen ball of compressed gas approximately the size of a basketball at 850psi nearly instantly. The effects of this injection will drop many of the world's largest land predators. The effects of the compressed gas not only cause over-inflation during ascent when used underwater, but also freezes all tissues and organs surrounding the point of injection on land or at sea. When used underwater, the injected gas carries the predator to the surface BEFORE blood is released ...

The 'would have been' service rifle if the SLR wasnt adopted. It is chambered in the .280 calibre which is very similar ballistically to todays 6.8 SPC and size. The weapon is well balanced for a Bullpup layout, and has a reliable dust proof mechanisim. Unfortunatley, this weapon was cancelled due to NATO standardisation of the 7.62x54 round to be used in the-then standard service rifles and also the cost of this platform.

The first Lamborghini off-road, that wasn't a tractor, was the Cheetah, it was built on contract for the American firm Mobility Technology International, which were contacted by the U.S. military to design and built an all-terrain vehicle.

M.T.I. would sell the car while it would be built in Sant'Agata, Lamborghini didn't have the time to completely design the Cheetah itself, so basic instructions were taken from M.T.I., who unfortunately just copied a very well known vehicle, the FMC ...

The only thing I personally don't like about this weapon is its habit of jamming when you fire it a lot (most of them happen when you try and use a regular M-16/M-4 magazine as a source of ammo) and don't heavily lube it up.
The MG131 heavy machine gun is from German origin and was thier own equivalent to the Browning M2HB machine guns. It is lighter in weight, easier to produce/maintain but also had a higher ROF. The MG131 is also rumoured to use electrically fired ammo as it was also mounted in the nose of fighter aircraft so it was synchronised to shoot between the propellor blades.

If this weapon can be chambered in .50cal BMG, The MG131 can still be a perfect HMG even today.

The MGP-84 is a submachine gun manufactured in Peru and is chambered in the 9mm calibre. The weapon itself is accurate especially in single shot mode. Another "Assault Pistol" version of the MGP-84 exists and has rumoured to have replaced the Browning HiPower in the Peruvian forces.

The F1 was a 9mm submachine gun of Australian origin and saw use in the Vietnam war. It is heavily based on the British/Canadian/Indian manufactured L2A3 Sterling but with instead a fixed buttstock, SLR pistol grip, and most notably a top loaded magazine much like the previous Owen gun.
